More about Molly Malone

The statue of Molly Malone in Dublin is a symbol of the area and is located in a very central location, in Grafton Street, the backbone of the most elegant shopping area.


Molly Malone (Mol Ni Mhaoileoin) is also known as "Cockles and Mussels" or "In Dublin Fair City". Molly Malone is the name of the protagonist of a popular song from Ireland who has become the unofficial anthem in Dublin. It was composed around 1880 by James Yorkston.

That song tells the story of a beautiful pescadera, called Molly Malone. The girl died of a fever in the street. She was going through the streets of the port area of Dublin, pushing a cart and proclaiming Sung "Mussels and cockles alive!".

In the statue in Grafton Street, Molly Malone can be seen with her low-cut dress and your car where sold seafood. People say that three hundred years after his death the spirit of Molly walks through the streets of Dublin.
